New Dutch national team boss Guus Hiddink has claimed that he will continue the good work done by Louis van Gaal in the last few years. After coming into the national team fold following a disappointing Euro 2012, Van Gaal once again brought back confidence to the Dutch national team and led them to the semifinals of the World Cup 2014. However, it has announced that he would be joining Manchester United and not extend his stay in the national team. This has resulted in the return of Hiddink, who was in charge of the Dutch a few years ago.
Regarded as one of finest coaches in the world, Hiddink is expected to bring in his own ideas to the national team after taking in charge. He was appointed former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as one of his assistants. Since they will be following a successful regime, a lot of pressure will be on Hiddink to deliver results almost instantly. The Dutch will be expected to be one of the favourites of the Euro 2016 and the qualifying campaign for this tournament will begin in September. Hiddink says that he will be looking to retain some of the successful aspects of Van Gaal’s regime.
“I applaud the whole team, which performed excellently. It was a very realistic approach there (in Brazil). That policy will be continued. I’m not going to get further into names. There is much debate about the Dutch School, which is in my view a comprehensive concept. It’s good for the Dutch football that is performed there. They are again excited about football in our country. I’ve been abroad a lot recently and you can see the Oranje has got a new kick,” said the former Chelsea manager after being presented as the new coach of the Dutch national team.
