PRAISE FOR ORANJE

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has praised his team after the 4-0 win over Romania by saying that it was the best ever display by his team. Netherlands came into the match against Romania knowing that they could put 1 foot in the FIFA World Cup 2014 finals. The team are currently top of the group D by a massive difference. They just extended it following the win over Romania. Striker Robin van Persie returned to form after scoring two goals. Van Gaal praised the Manchester United player by saying that he is proving to be a real difference in recent years.

After struggling with several injury problems during the early part of his career, van Persie has been one of the consistent players over the last few years for both club and country. Jermain Lens and the former Tottenham midfielder – Rafael van der Vaart – scored the goals for Netherlands in this impressive victory. Van der Vaart opened the scoring after just 12 min on the clock. It looked like another rout was on the cards for Netherlands. However, Romania defended valiantly and went into the half-time break with just the one goal deficit.

The second half was totally different after Robin van Persie scored two goals, while Lens’ late penalty helped put a smile on the manager’s face. “Van Persie was very unlucky in the first half but in the second half he was actually very happy, because he made an incredible world-class goal. He was also a great target man, as you saw in his first goal. And Van der Vaart put his shot in flawlessly. Lens was [also] involved in two goals. And I haven’t even talked about the defensive organisation. I thought it was the best match [the team has played] in this period under me,” said Louis van Gaal.
