Fans were back to full capacity at Anfield for the first time since the start of last year and they cheered the Liverpool players to a well deserved win over Burnley. The Reds were able to get their revenge over Burnley who were responsible for stopping their long unbeaten home Premier League run last season.

Netherlands international Virgil Van Dijkis the leader in the Liverpool defence and he was an absentee in the Reds squad for the majority of last season due to a serious knee injury. He was back in a Premier League squad for the Reds in the opening game of the new season at Norwich City who were promoted to the top flight after they won the Championship title last season. Netherlands player Van Dijk marshalled the defence as Liverpool thrashed Norwich City 3-0 away from home in their Premier League opener this season.

Diogo Jota, Brazilian substitute Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah were on target for the Reds against the Canaries.

Liverpool saw off Burnley in their second league game this season with Netherlands international Van Dijk marshalling the defence once again. Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane scored for the Reds either side of the halftime break to take the three points on offer. The Reds are one of the four teams on six points after two games in the Premier League this season. The other teams are Brighton and Hove Albion, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool and Chelsea share joint top with a goal difference of +5.
